Leavers week being celebrated

November 27th, 2008

Leavers have introduced the concept of leavers only zone. Nearly 3,500 leavers attended the function on Monday; another 500-1500 will attend it next week. About 1100 wristbands were sold at Duns borough’s Lions Park where leavers lined up to get one. More wristbands were sold at Buss Elton bus station. It is estimated that nearly 5000-6000 wristbands will be sold this year. Twenty per cent of all the sales will go back to the Duns borough community through the leavers community appreciation fund. Police officers have found that there were less leavers showing up drunk at the zone, and many more behaving well and having fun. But there were a few arrests. Three male leavers were charged with assault and trespass after a minor fight broke out at a Duns borough caravan park that involved 10 leavers. One more leaver was arrested in the leaver’s zone for disorderly conduct.

All the hospitals will follow a uniform wristband color

November 25th, 2008

Many surgical centers and hospitals in Pennsylvania use colored wristbands for patients who are facing allergic problems. But every hospital has different color schemes and medical messages which can pose a potential safety risk. But the situation will change because most of the Bucks country and eastern Montgomery country hospitals are planning to adopt a standardized patient wristband color coding system statewide. Purple means do not resuscitate; pink means restricted extremity; green denotes latex allergy; red is an allergy and yellow is a fall risk.

Due to certain problems in the past, Hospital & Health system association of Pennsylvania has created a pilot project where all the hospitals will follow a uniform wristband color. St. Luke’s hospital in Quakertown was the first hospital to use uniform wristband colors earlier this month. Earlier, the hospital was using three colors for restricted extremity. Other hospitals in the area are reviewing the products. Two hospitals like Frankford hospitals and Grand View hospital have planned to start using this band from next year. St. Mary Medical center in Middletown will implement this plan from Dec.1.

Reflective wristbands make kids feel safe

November 19th, 2008

A shopping center in Chippenham, has provided police officials, reflective wristbands which will be passed on to children of Corsham primary school. An officer visited the school as part of the National road safety week and distributed reflective wristbands. Fewer children went to school because parents were worried about their safety. These wristbands can assure their parents, that children are safe especially during the winter months when the dark mornings and early nights draw in. Reflective wristbands can educate children to Be safe, Be seen. This can provide support to police officials.

Wristbands reunite children with their parents

November 14th, 2008

Fluorescent bands can be useful to young children who get lost while shopping late at night for Christmas in Shrewsbury. These bands will reunite the children with their parents. These bands can be placed around the child’s wrist on which the contact number is written, so if the youngster gets lost, police can quickly reunite them with their family. Police officials came up with this idea after being inspired by a similar scheme at the Shrewsbury flower this year. The band will have only contact details and not the name of the child or address details. If police officials found a lost child they have to just call up at the number on the band and reunite the child with the parent. Parents are really happy with this scheme because these bands can save their children when they are lost.

Rubber bracelets did not take long to become a strike among generous organizations that wanted to spread the word about their cause. As well, many have found the custom silicone bracelets to be a first-class way to raise money for their associations, as the rubber bracelets could be sold for $1 each and yet generate funds for the organization. Wristband colors help hospitals

November 4th, 2008

At Memorial Hermann hospitals, a red wristband on a patient’s arm denotes an allergy to a specific medication. To staffers at the University Of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, a red bracelet further means the patient is at danger of falling. And at diverse hospitals across Texas, minimum six colors of awareness wristbands are used to indicate do-not-revivify orders. Hospitals use color-coded wristbands that usually hold some printed information, as shorthand to convey conditions of patient care.

“Color-coding helps people quickly identify information,” said Debora Simmons, a nursing professor at Texas Woman’s University Institute of Heath Sciences-Houston who studies medical errors. “That may be easier for the nurses,” she said, adding that standardized colors adopted by the HCA hospital help her offer —and get — better care.
